Steven Janosik discussed current legal issues in higher education
On Sept. 28, Steven Janosik shared current legal issues in higher education with Student Development and Enrollment Services (SDES) faculty and staff. Janosik has a long history of publishing and presenting on higher education and legal issues. This opportunity for professional development was sponsored by SDES and open to all SDES staff members.
Janosik is senior policy analyst and associate professor in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech). In addition, Janosik serves as the program coordinator for the Higher Education program and the director for Educational Policy Institute at Virginia Tech. Janosik has more than 20 years of experience in college administration. He has authored or co-authored two books, nine book chapters, 38 refereed journal articles and 20 other published reports on the topics of campus crime, college administration, higher education law and policy, liability and risk management, professional standards and ethics, residence life, and student development. Two national associations have recognized his research. Janosik has served on the executive board of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators, the media board of the American College Personnel Association, the executive committee of the Association for Student Judicial Affairs, and as editor of the Journal of College and University Student Housing. He is currently associate editor for the College Student Affairs Journal, a reviewer for the Journal of College Student Retention, the Journal of Counseling and Development, and the NASPA Journal. His latest publications include articles: "Anticipating Legal Issues in Higher Education" and "The Influence on the Clery Act on Administrative Practice in Higher Education."
