1st-Generation Student Wants to Use Social Work Degree to Combat Injustices

Pursuing a college education was not a big priority in Yaridma Tejada’s home when she was a youngster.

She said her immigrant parents from the Dominican Republic – her mom a high school graduate and her dad, who completed third grade – “never helped me with my homework assignments or seemed to enjoy reading or learning themselves.”

SDES was created May 1998 when Student Affairs and Enrollment and Academic Services merged. In July 1998, the UKnighted Newsletter was established as a vehicle of communication to all employees of SDES and the UCF community. The UKnighted Newsletters are monthly publications that highlight various activities and items of interest within the SDES Division.

May 2009 was the last monthly UKnighted newsletter and the UKnighted is now only be printed every semester. Current SDES news articles are placed continually on this site. For a history of UKnighted newsletters and other publications, visit the SDES Archive.
