The primary goal of UCF’s Career Services is to provide information and guidance to students in efforts to help them achieve both academic success and professional growth. For students who want to graduate in four years with a major they enjoy that leads to a professional job in their area of study, a connection with Career Services is essential. Through individual career counseling and participation in informational workshops, UCF students can effectively plan and launch their careers by aligning academic studies to employment goals.

On May 23rd, Career Services held a Networking Strategies workshop to teach students how to network successfully in a highly competitive job market. The presenters broke down networking strategies from LinkedIn profiles and professional communication, on which side to wear your name tag, and how to extend a professional handshake. Among the wealth of disseminated information, key points included common  networking sources, utilizing waivers and sponsorships to attend conferences, and overcoming networking fears. In particular, the presenters emphasized techniques and tools students can use to prepare for, market, and conduct themselves during interviews.

Bill Blank, Director of Career Services, states, “Our staff assist students with highlighting their academic success and related experiences through a professional resume. This involves helping students relate their specific experiences to the needs of employers or the goals of the graduate programs they are pursuing. Additionally, we provide workshops and individual practice sessions for students to develop or enhance their interviewing skills in preparation for our multiple career fairs held throughout the year.”

Lastly, he adds, “To achieve this academic success and professional growth, students must be willing to enter into a working alliance or partnership with our office.  If they make the effort to invest in themselves, we will invest in them and ultimately employers or graduate schools will invest in them!”

Career Services is located in the Career Services and Experiential Learning building, room 101. For upcoming Workshops and Informational Sessions, visit the Career Services webpage: career.ucf.edu
