Food is love, and those who eat together stay together. Never was that more evident than earlier this week at the annual Gather Luncheon. Dozens of volunteers from WHPS, RWC, the Parent and Family Fund Grant (UCF Foundation), and SDES Departments served 411 three-course meals to Knights in the Cape Florida Ballroom inside the Student Union.

Wellness and Health Promotion Services organizes the yearly event, and this year, made the difficult decision to move everything from Memory Mall into the Student Union because of inclement weather. Lucky’s Market was the exclusive partner for the event, creating an inclusive menu with allergen free, vegan and vegetarian options, including:

  • Appetizer: Mediterranean Salad
  • Main course: Chicken Salad Wrap
  • Dessert: Vanilla Cupcake

Because of room capacity, only 250 Knights could be seated at any one time, so volunteers worked diligently to serve the first round of students, then turn the room over for the next round. Each table offered Mason jar center pieces stuffed with ice breaker questions, which helped create an atmosphere of community and togetherness. Many students engaged with people they did not know prior to the event.

Interim President Thad Seymour attended Gather for the first time. He was joined by Provost Elizabeth Dooley and Vice President of Student Development and Enrollment Services Maribeth Ehasz. SGA President Josh Boloña was also in attendance. Seymour told UCF Today that the energy was palpable, “You’ve got freshman sitting next to graduate students, all different majors, and they’re all exchanging ideas.”
