If you looked closely late last week while attending or watching the commencement ceremonies via live stream online, it was not hard to find representation from the Recreation and Wellness Center; especially in the seats occupied by students receiving their Master’s degree. Seven graduate assistants and one professional staff member received either their Master’s of Arts or Master’s of Science degree at Addition Financial Arena during the first weekend of May.

Among the group was Marketing and Communications Manager of the Recreation and Wellness Center and Wellness and Health Promotion Services,  Scott Mauro, who received his Master’s of Arts in Educational Leadership Higher Education-Student Personnel — 24 years and five months to the day from receiving his Bachelor’s of Art in Radio and Television from UCF in 1994.  Mauro joined fellow Educational Leadership graduates Rob Bruner, Kevin Buchanan, Jordan Morgan, and Joaquin Vidal-Collazo during last Friday’s afternoon ceremonies. Three other RWC graduate assistants received their Master’s of Science in Sports and Exercise Science, including Athletic Training GA Kali Cook, and Fitness GA’s Amy Lingenfelter and Stacey Myers.

Several GA’s from the RWC have already landed jobs in the campus recreation field and athletic training including:

  • Bruner who will be the Assistant Director of Sports Programs at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee
  • Morgan who will be a Facilities and Marketing Specialist at Metropolitan State University in Denver, Colorado
  • Vidal-Collazo who will be a Coordinator of Competitive Sports at Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia
  • Cook, Athletic Training ESPN Wide World of Sports
