The UCF Student Union’s Knights Helping Knights Pantry has been selected by Lucky’s Market Orlando as a finalist for this quarter’s “Bags for Change” program.
If selected, Knights Pantry will receive donations from customers who bring reusable bags to do their shopping.

Customers receive a $.10 refund for every reusable bag brought to the store; they are then able to donate the savings to the one of the three “Bags for Change” participants. Lucky’s Market will also match all donations.

Voting is open on Facebook from July 24-31 at www.goo.gl/86VRtr and can be done by “Liking” Knights Pantry at UCF in the comments section of the post.

Three of the contest’s five finalists will be selected for the “Bags for Change” program and include Florida Urban Agriculture, Adult Literacy League, Best Buddies Orlando and Hebni Nutrition Consultants.

Last year, Knights Pantry provided more than 26,000 pounds of food to 12,555 UCF students while accepting 30,000 pounds of donated food. All of this was made possible by the 5,129 volunteer hours logged by students helping their fellow Knights.

Throughout the year, Knights Pantry collaborates with offices across campus to host donation drives, provide cooking demonstrations, and help students prepare for interviews by providing professional clothing. The pantry also utilizes the UCF Arboretum’s greenhouse to collect tomatoes, hot peppers, potatoes and green onions.

People interested in working with Knights Pantry to donate food, services or time can contact 407.823.3663 or stop by the Ferrell Commons location.
