NASPA’s Bronze Excellence Award for First-generation Student Success was awarded to UCF’s First-generation Program earlier this month. The award recognizes innovative initiatives that support first-generation undergraduate or graduate students through programs, policies, procedures, best practices, or services. The award also recognizes institutions who are transforming higher education through outstanding programs, innovative services, effective administration, and broad-based institutional support and innovative collaborations. The First-generation Program provides a portfolio of academic support services and resources that support students who are the first in their families to attend college.

In 2020, The Center for First-generation Student Success, an initiative of NASPA – Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education and The Suder Foundation, also recognized the program as a First-gen Forward Institution. This designation recognizes institutions of higher education that have demonstrated a commitment to improving experiences and advancing outcomes of first-generation college students. In addition to the program’s recognition as a First-gen Forward Institution, UCF is also a member of the NASPA First Scholars® Network. The First Scholars Network represents institutional partners committed to transforming the higher education landscape in ways that elevate potential and advance outcomes for first-generation students today and in the future.
