This week, students were encouraged to attend a UCF Downtown Open House in the Pegasus Ballroom. Staff members from SDES were out in full force, engaging students and answering questions about UCF Downtown.

Housing and Residence Life shared a lot of exciting information about UnionWest at Creative Village — the new student housing at UCF Downtown. Around 300 students and families visited their table. A few students were already signed up to live downtown, but wanted to know more about the room assignment process. Of those who had not yet signed up, the most frequently asked questions were in regard to pricing, food, and transportation. Many students were pleasantly surprised to learn about the wide range of room styles and pricing, and that all rooms come furnished and include all utilities with no caps. Students were also excited to learn that 2 of the 3 floor plan styles include a kitchenette in the living room area and that all residents at UnionWest will have a full kitchen, study spaces, and laundry facilities on each floor. Students also learned about the many downtown transit options and enjoyed viewing the virtual tours that were available in person and online.

Nearly 200 students met with representatives from the Recreation and Wellness Center and Wellness and Health Promotion Services. Students were most interested in learning about what services would be offered downtown and where specific resources would be located, as well as what the spaces will look like. Rec and Wellness was able to confirm for students that their space is going to look similar to the Rec and Wellness Center at Knights Plaza, but with even more functional workout areas. Students could also spin a marketing prize wheel consisting of 18 quick exercises that could be performed for an opportunity to win a t-shirt or drawstring backpack. Everyone agrees that it was a great event with incredible engagement.
