Monday, November 8th marks the beginning of First Generation Awareness Week at UCF! Multicultural Academic and Support Services (MASS) and campus partners have planned a week of fun and celebration to recognize our first gen student community. The week kicks off with the TRI Alpha First-Generation Honors Society Induction Ceremony on the main campus and an Outreach Blitz at UCF Downtown. Throughout the week, resources and outreach services will be tabling in the Student Union patio for students to stop by and participate.

UCF has a strong history of supporting first gen students and prioritizing their academic success with services and programs designed to aid in their journey as Knights. Within the MASS office, the First Generation Program offers specific resources for first gen students including guidance, support, counseling, scholarships, mentorships, and more. In spring 2021, 21.9% of UCF undergraduate students were first generation students with 40.1% being FTIC and 57.5% being Transfer students.

In 2020, UCF was recognized by NASPA and the Sudar Foundation as a First-gen Forward Institution in addition to being selected for the first inaugural cohort in the First Scholars Network. This designation recognizes higher education institutions who have committed to improving the collegiate experience for first generation students. As one of the first institutions to participate in the First Scholars Network, UCF contributes to the First Scholar Framework for other institutions to follow and implement to promote first generation student persistence and degree completion.
