Bodhi

For those of you who knew Bodhi, I am sad to share the sad news of his passing at the end of November 2023. Bodhi was a great co-worker at UCF CAPS for many years, since 2012. He comforted so many of our students and made them smile and feel happier and safer in his presence. He was the first registered therapy dog that worked for UCF. In his youth, he was on came to campus at least 3 times a week and sometimes more often to be the face of CAPS at our outreach events. Bodhi was the friendly face that reduced student’s apprehension to seek services. Many students would ask for Bodhi by name. We continue to invite therapy dogs to campus during our PAWS events 3 times each semester, but we will never forget the Bodhi was our OG. We all loved Bodhi and he will miss his happy self-dearly! We thank Valeska Wilson-Cathcart (and Michael Cathcart) for being the best Mom (parents) to Bodhi.

To honor him, here are the words his Valeska Wilson-Cathcart shared on social media about him the day he passed.

It is with a heavy heart and a deep sense of sadness that we share the news of our beloved Bodhi’s passing. Bodhi was not just our dog, but a cherished member of our family. He brought joy to our lives and was a constant companion to his canine sister. He had a remarkable talent for comforting others as a registered therapy dog, and he will forever be the best coworker to ever walk the halls at Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) at UCF. Bodhi had a zest for life and loved the simple pleasures, like rolling in the bushes and chasing skateboards. We will always remember his enthusiasm for belly rubs and his undying love for chicken and bacon. He never cared much for vegetarian treats, and he had a strong aversion to wearing clothes or vests but did so for the many occasions and outreaches he did at UCF. However, he did look quite dapper in his stylish ties, which he wore like a true professional. Bodhi was always ready for a photo opportunity and would eagerly perform little tricks to bring a smile to our faces. His love knew no bounds, and it is impossible to put into words how much he meant to us. Our hearts are heavy with grief as we bid farewell to our sweet boy. He will forever hold a special place in our hearts.
