Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is one of the many departments participating in Safe Knight Week.

Safe Knight Week is an annual partnership between numerous campus partners, including Counseling and Psychological Services, Environment Health & Safety, Office of Institutional Equity, Recreation and Wellness Center, Student Care Services, Student Government, Student Health Services, UCF Police Department, and Wellness and Health Promotion Services.

Safe Knight Week began in 2012, on a much smaller scale with fewer departments participating. The event continues to grow each year with more partners joining the week-long extravaganza. Departments are asked not only to provide students with information but to help students walk away with a new skill.

In recent years, the event adopted the #Adulting theme. Students can learn how to sew a button and properly wash their hands. There are opportunities to learn about CPR/AED, First Aid, and stress management, as well as how to treat injuries while exercising and take fitness assessments.

The week of events kicked off on Monday with the Safe Knight Week 2020 Carnival. Emergency Responder units from all over Central Florida were visible from Memory Mall. Students could tour emergency vehicles, including a helicopter from the Orange County Sheriff’s office and a ladder truck from Orange County Fire and Rescue.

The Catch Your Breath UCF table educated students about UCF’s smoke-free policy, the risks of secondhand smoke, and the risks associated with electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS), more commonly known as electronic cigarettes or vapes.

In addition to sponsoring the Catch Your Breath UCF table, Student Health Services also presented one of the timeliest health topics: proper hand hygiene education.
